New μSRFlow web application

The old musrfit.cgi tool did its job but was already showing it’s age. It has been replaced by the more modern and capable μSRFlow, a new web application for creating and editing MSR input files for musrfit. It also streamlines the fitting and analysis procedure with a fully integrated parameter plotting capability. The same interface is also available as a standalone desktop application.

TRIM.SP-NL is twice as fast

The new TRIM.SP-NL release brings support for more complex multilayer and multi-element targets, together with a substantial performance boost. The new code was tested and validated using 429 simulations, showing an average runtime reduction by about a factor of two while preserving the implantation, backscattering, transmission, and range results within Monte Carlo statistics.

Try the updated TRIMSP-NL Workbench online or use the standalone version.

TRIM.SP with complex compositions

You may have not realized it, but TRIM.SP could not handle compositions with more than 5 elements (last elements were ignored). Well, now it can. A recent upgrade of the original FORTRAN code enables you to simulate the stopping distribution in compositions with up to 12 elements. During this upgrade, I also discovered and fixed some hidden bugs. These are not alarming and affect only boundary cases, so don’t worry your old TRIM.SP calculations were (most probably) fine.

Updated GUI for TRIM.SP

The graphical user interface for TRIM.SP has been updated and polished. Users can now download RPM, DEB and Flatpak packages to install locally on their PCs. Windows users are encouraged to switch to Linux.

For those who would like to contribute to the development of this project or introduce their own changes, the full code is available on bitbucket.

New look for SearchDB

The Andrew File System (AFS) is being phased out from PSI. All our data will now be saved on a new Network File System (NFS) drives. We took this opportunity to make the data folder structures uniform across all instruments. We adapted the SearchDB and musrfit tools to work with the NFS files and updated the look and feel of the graphical user interface. We hope that you like it.

Please report any issues with running these tools.
